Continuing Medical Education
Only $3-4 per credit!
Odyssey candidates are eligible for very inexpensive Category 2 continuing medical education credits.
(The typical cost of CME for courses that you attend varies between $30 and $45 per credit.)
Usually, 60 Category 2 credits and 40 Category 1 credits are required every 2 years for medical licensure. One credit can be claimed for every hour of coursework.
Hours associated with Odyssey courses are the following: 8 hours for each day of a Small Group Session or Audit, 9.25 hours for a Content Review and 7 hours for a Private Tutorial. A certificate documenting the hours attended is $110 (by check,) or $125 (by credit card.)
Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
INSTRUCTIONS: Please fill out the contact information below and indicate the courses in which you participated. Once the certificate fee has been paid, the certificate with the number of hours you can claim for CME will be sent to you by email as a pdf file, or as a hardcopy, whichever you prefer.

Frequently Asked Questions
Feel free to contact Dr. Argy (office 508.990.0300, or cell 508.221.1101) at any time to ask any questions.
When is the best time to prepare for the oral board exam? The sooner the better. Cramming may work for the writtens, but it doesn't work well for the orals. In addition, because your study habits and presentation techniques will improve as a result of taking an Odyssey course, you will want time to implement that new knowledge before you take the exam. Remember, for surgery as for board prep, technique is not something you forget -- that's why you should prepare early.
What should I do if I failed the orals on a previous attempt? I recommend to most of these candidates that they take a Private Tutorial at least once, followed by additional preparation (Tutorial or Small Group Session + Audit +/- Content Review) several weeks later. This combination gives the candidate a personalized evaluation, identifies areas of weakness and strength, and develops an individualized plan to improve performance. The followup PT and/or Course Combinations reinforce what was learned in the initial Private Tutorial and build skills and confidence.
Should I take a written board review course to study content for the orals? Simply put ... no. The qualifying exam requires a different set of skills than the certifying exam. Studying written content is an incredibly inefficient way to prepare for the orals.
Should I review old exam summaries to prepare for the orals? Again, simply put ... no. The certifying exam requires a set of organizational and delivery skills that are learned by DOING, under the guidance of someone like Dr. Argy who is very experienced in the process, and NOT by reading. In fact, candidates read/use old summaries in a way that damages candidate performance.
What is the most common reason candidates fail the GS or Colon-Rectal oral exam? The majority of candidates don't know how to organize, prioritize and deliver information effectively under tight time pressure. A failing exam is often due to multiple deficiencies that become cumulative. Odyssey candidates learn optimal methods to organize and deliver information logically and clearly in order to solve problems presented by the examiners.
